History

The Chamber’s original form was Latvian Business Club in the UK that was designed primarily to organise monthly educational and networking events for the Latvians and our business partners in London, UK. As the globalisation of the world economy continues, our mission has expanded to include supporting the business relationships that flourish between the Latvian, British, Russian, and other communities in the UK, and to close the cultural gap that hinders complete economic cooperation. Also, it is imperative that our economic leaders embrace social responsibilities and contribute to the community.

Our first meet-up happened under the umbrella of ibf.lv (oldest Latvian online business forum owned by one of the Chamber founders Helmuts Meskonis) on the July 31st 2018 at the very central London City restaurant “James Cochran”. The meet-up was a great hit and it was even featured by major Latvian news channel LTV7 on their prime time.

The very next event took place on August 31st 2018 in a building owned by one of the oldest UK Latvian communities Daugavas Vanagi, in London. Again, this event happened under the umbrella of the Latvian online business forum ibf.lv, though we noted that the majority of our attendees had various offline business rather than online ones.

This event was a full day event with breakfast, sushi lunch, seminars, presentations, networking breaks, dinner and an unofficial part at the Latvian restaurant/pub Balzāmbārs (located in the same building). For the first time we had international attendees as well – representing Ireland, Germany and Austria. This event took us to the next level immediately.

This event started the new era of our monthly events at the London house of the highly respected Latvian organisation Daugavas Vanagi.

Our 4th networking event took place on the November 2nd 2018 at Daugavas Vanagi building, London. This was a special day as 2nd third of our event was dedicated to the awards to the best Latvian businesses across various niches. The very best of the best were found via voting at our Facebook group. This event was a great great success as well.

Today the Chamber actively encourages its members to develop friendships with leaders in their local communities, as well as government officials, by hosting numerous luncheons, symposiums and other activities. Functioning as a not-for-profit organisation, Latvian Chamber of Commerce for the United Kingdom will continue to be the bridge between our two nations and work to achieve the goal of the Chamber’s founding members: building economic relationship based on friendship, integrity, prosperity and cooperation.
